Thoughts

Worked with JJ in Cheung Sha Wan in the early 90's where he was the Assistant Divisional Commander (Administration). As a newly passed out Inspector, I found JJ to be such a kind and friendly senior officer. A very competent and efficient administrator who kept the division running. He made the job look effortless. I enjoyed listening to his tales and stories in the mess whilst enjoying a beer (San Miguel of course). He was a very popular officer, who was liked and respected by all. One of the officers who made up the rich tapestry of the Royal Hong Kong Police. He will be missed by many. RIP JJ.

Passed out of training school to Wong Tai Sin District where Mr Connors worked as Assistant Divisional Commander Admin. As a very green inspector i was used to seniors being a bit short or gruff, however, I found Mr Connors to be very helpful and prepared to offer sound advice. If you asked him to officiate an Identify Parade he would always make himself available and later when he moved to Cheung Sha Wan he would continue to help with id parades connected to my remand prisoners in Lai Chi Kok. I can picture him now standing in the mess at the bar reading the newspaper with a coke on top of the bar and a San Mig under it. He was always happy to talk about football and i think his team was west brom although i may be wrong. RIP Mr Conners you helped me a lot with your guidance and advice in my early career.

John was a much loved member of the Hong Kong Football Club Soccer Section, and was Section Chairman for a time. He was also Captain of the HKFC 4ths for many years. He was a stalwart supporter of the Club's First Team, and his booming voice could be heard leading the shout of "COME ON YOU BLUES" at various stadia throughout Hong Kong. I have informed many of the HKFC football community of his passing. RIP John
